The Edxcel ICT GCSE

The Exam (40% of the qualification)

In this unit, students explore how digital technology impacts on the lives of individuals, organisations and society. They learn about current and emerging digital technologies and the issues raised by their use in a range of contexts.

Controlled Assessment (60% of the qualification)

This is a practical unit. Students broaden and enhance their ICT skills and capability. They work with a range of digital tools and techniques to produce effective ICT solutions in a range of contexts. They learn to reflect critically on their own and others’ use of ICT.

The OCR Computing GCSE

The Exam (40% of the qualification)

Question paper that includes a mixture of short and long answer questions, some of which will require candidates to write program code.

Controlled Assessment: Practical investigation. (30% of the qualification)

Candidates carry out a practical investigation of a topic chosen from a set of options supplied by OCR.

Controlled Assessment: Programming project. (30% of the qualification)

Candidates create solutions to computing tasks from a set of options supplied by OCR.
