Extra-Curricular and Enrichment Activities

The PE department is committed to innovation and the raising of standards and developing our young learners. As well as delivering an exciting PE curriculum students are offered a vast array of enrichment activities to develop and broaden their skills. These include the Duke of Edinburgh Award which is offered at all levels from year 9 to year 13; a number of our students now train as Expedition leaders through the BELA award; Coaching qualifications such as Junior Football Organisers Award and Badminton Leaders Award. We offer coaching courses for students to become leaders and have opportunities in our feeder schools.

The school is succeeding in District, County and National competitions in a range of sports. Our under-16 girls’ football team have had a lot of success in recent years winning both the Redditch and Bromsgrove High School League and the County Schools Cup Final two years in a row. We cater for students of all abilities, including those with disabilities; in recent years our students qualified for the National Wheelchair Basketball finals. Our extra-curricular calendar is busy all year through. As well as offering all of the traditional sports, students participate and compete in alternative sports such as, Rowing, Spinning, Dancercise, Boxercise and Skate boarding. Students also have the opportunity to train with external professionals such as the Worcestershire Warriors for Rugby, Worcestershire County Cricket and Redditch Trampoline club.

We have tremendous facilities that cannot be matched in the area – these include a large multi-use sports hall, modern dance studio, gymnastics hall, 6 tennis courts, two large fields, an astro pitch, a fitness suite, a state of the art iGym and a Sports Science Laboratory. These facilities give our students and staff the best possible chance to succeed as learners and educators respectively. All staff use iPads in lessons to help engage students and make learning more focused particularly in terms of sports analysis. The department has an active Twitter account (@ArrowValePe). Victory isn't defined by wins or losses. It is defined by effort. If you can truthfully say, 'I did the best I could, I gave everything I had,' then you're a winner. - Wolfgang Schadler
