Principal's Welcome

It is my great pleasure to invite you to look around our school website, through which we aim to provide all the information you will require as a parent or carer, or as a member of our community.

The website is a testament to the incredible work of our students and staff, with many examples of the opportunities our young people take advantage of to extend their learning and keep safe.

Visitors to school comment on how well our students interact with each other and staff, which creates a very purposeful, calm yet friendly and welcoming atmosphere in which students have the opportuntities to fulfil their potential.

Our school is an ‘outstanding school’ (Ofsted May 2014) and has been designated as a National Teaching School – this enables us to train people to become teachers, and also to train existing professionals due to the quality of teachers at our school – for instance, we run a subject enhancement programme for Physics teachers from other schools. (For more information about our Teaching School Alliance (TSA) click here.) We are also a National Support School, providing support for teachers and schools within the West Midlands Region. These initiatives make Arrow Vale a very desirable place to teach, and to learn to teach, which means we can attract and develop the very best staff to work at or school. This clearly enables us to secure the best possible learning environment for our students.

We are an inclusive school where everyone works together to be the very best they can be. As one of the schools in the RSA Family of Academies, our community benefits from the support and resources of the RSA, providing students with innovative learning and life-enhancing opportunities. RSA Academies are distinctive, with a particular passion for academic success generated through creative teaching and learning, and skills development, that best prepares students for the world beyond school.  Follow this link to read in detail why students at our RSA Academy get an experience that gives a range of quality experiences and opportunities that most schools can only dream of. We believe in generating the best possible learning experiences in all subject areas, whether it be English, maths, the creative and expressive arts, sport, science, languages, design, and a whole host of other subjects we offer at GCSE and A Level. Students being able to discover and follow their passion is a passion of ours. We aim to give them the Power to Create.

We have very high standards for our students.  We expect all students to wear our full uniform, have excellent attendance and support each other through their behaviour and efforts in class.  Students are expected to work very hard in order to maximise their potential, taking as much from the high quality teaching and learning we demand of our staff as possible.  We work very hard to prepare them for higher education or high quality employment, enabling them to lead fulfulling and successful lives.  We aim to be the outstanding platform for them to be the best they can be.

You can expect a lot from us as a school :

Examination results:

The results our students achieve at A level are at an all-time high. Many of our students choose to do 3 Academic A levels – some choose to do 2 A Levels and a vocational post-16 qualification, and a few choose entirely vocational routes. We believe in curriculum choice, but with strong advice and guidance to help students achieve their destinations having studied the best courses. Many access the highest grades (with 50% A*-B grades last year), and we have a high number of students who progress to the very best universities to continue their education.

Progress in the vast majority of GCSE subjects is truly outstanding. Students have access to a wide range of courses, including separate sciences, history, geography, a range of languages, drama, art, photography, catering, hair, PE and a host of others. Again, advice is strong but we also have a philosophy of not forcing certain pathways where the rationale from student/parent is sensible. We have featured on the Midlands and the national news in recent years in recognition of outstanding examination results.  Our students deserve this recognition and we are very proud of their achievements! Who knows what is possible in 2017?!

The school is so much more than exam results however – please view on this website in particular the news section, the SMSC section, and the Discover enrichment programme, Aim High transition programme and the Excel intervention programme for an insight into life beyond the academic subjects that our school offers – student leadership at the school is truly exceptional.

This website should give you an insight into our school, what we offer, and most importantly our students’ achievements. We also aim to provide you with information you may need about the school. However, a website can never be good enough to show all that we have to offer, so please do come along and see us in action. Just contact the school to make an appointment and we will be happy to show the school off to you.

Senior Vice Principal's Welcome

Welcome to our school website.  Students and staff are extremely proud of our school, and although there is a wealth of information available on the website, I would also like to extend the invitation to come to see our school first hand.

I would like to take this opportunity to outline the priorities for RSA Academy Arrow this academic year.

  1. Top Grades : Our staff are using the latest research in Teaching and Learning to build on our recent successes (67% achieved at least one A*/A) and help even more students reach the top grades at GCSE and A Level
  2. Assessment : We are working with a National Company to develop an Assessment system from Year 7 to 11 that will enable staff, students and parents to see progress through the new 1-9 GCSE grades.
  3. Careers Advice and Guidance : As part of all RSA Academies commitment to the world beyond school, we are looking to further enhance the opportunities for our students to understand the range of career options available to them, while also developing the skills they need to secure their dream jobs ahead of others.
  4. Teacher Training : We have our first cohort of trainee teachers through the RSA Academies Teaching School following a programme of training to achieve Qualified Teacher Status with us.

As an Outstanding school, we are reflective, critical of ourselves, and constantly looking at ways to improve.

We are always looking for expertise that could add value to what we offer our students.  Please contact the school if you feel you could help in any way.
