At Arrow Vale Academy, we recognise the importance of high-quality extracurricular activities for our students’ development. As part of our commitment to providing the very best experiences, we are delighted to now offer the chance for our students to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

The DofE is an excellent programme which offers young people the chance to gain recognition for the skills and experiences that they gain as they grow. In a survey of major UK employers, the DofE Award was ranked as the top activity for young people to take part in alongside their studies to help them develop skills in communication, initiative, teamwork and confidence. (United Learning Trust, 2019)

The Award consists of four sections:

• Volunteering: Participants will take part in a role of their choice, gaining work experience and developing links with their community.
• Skills: Participants will either continue to build skills in an activity they have already taken part in or try an exciting new activity.
• Physical: Participants opt to take part in a sporting or physical activity of their choice. Options include team sports, individual training, dance, martial arts, bowling and many more.
• Expedition: Participants will take part in a structured training programme that culminates in an adventure through some of the UK’s beautiful countryside.

Participants can choose to complete their award using activities on offer as part of our extracurricular programme or activities that they take part in outside of school, so there is a way for everyone to get involved.

The Award is completed in three levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold. We offer bronze in Year 9, year 10 and Year 12 and in the future will offer Silver in year 10 and Gold as part of our Sixth Form provision.
