10 Oct Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance
When it comes to careers education, information, advice and guidance, our aim, at RSA Arrow Vale, is to ensure that we deliver the very best careers education to all students from year 9 to 13.
We have our very own dedicated Enterprise Advisor who works with the school to provide a link to a range of businesses. The Advisor is deployed through the Careers Enterprise Company and facilitates links to the Local Enterprise Partnership, and will coordinate employer visits both in and out of school. Furthermore, the Advisor, in her expert capacity, will counsel and advise students one-to-one to help them along their desired career pathway.
In Year 10 students have the opportunity to spend a week on work experience in June and in Year 12 students spend a week in July on a placement.
All students, from year 9 to year 13, will have the opportunity to attend talks and presentations by speakers representing a wide range of professions and sectors throughout the school year. These are given by representatives from companies and aim to inform on the work, opportunities, training and routes in to a variety of careers. They are advertised to students in advance. If we are aware of a student’s particular career choice then we will approach individual students with an invitation.
All students will have the opportunity to visit a place of work covering a wide range of professions and job sectors. Again, these are advertised to students in advance. If we are aware of a student’s particular career choice then we will approach individual students with an invitation.
Representatives from the world of enterprise and business come in and run workshops on interview skills, CV writing, application letter writing and the hiring process in general. Students will be able to go through rigorous mock interviews to prepare them thoroughly for what lies ahead.
In Year 9 all students will have one to one careers interviews with their form tutors to ascertain their desired professional destination. The use of Fast Tomato software will enable students to identify their chosen career or professional sector upon entry into Year 9.
From Year 10 onwards form tutors will hand over the responsibility of 1-to-1 career advice to an Enterprise Advisor who will be able to offer more precise and bespoke career information, advice and guidance.
