23 Oct CEIAG : Interactive Workshop
On Friday 19th October 2018, selected students at RSA Arrow Vale were invited to attend an interactive workshop with Daniel and Libby from Penguin Random House Publishers.
The workshop began with an introduction about Daniel and Libby and their roles within the publishing domain, with Daniel working within the editorial section based upon the Science, Philosophical and Historical contents and Libby working within Children’s literature. She also announced that as a Children’s Book publisher she also gets to write stories too!
After the introduction, students were presented with five departments within publishing: E-Marketing; Editorial; Design; Sales and Publicity. Students were given separate tasks to help understand the roles of these departments and to demonstrate how departments collaborate in order to publish books. The students approached these tasks with full force, determination and enthusiasm and showcased some excellent skills within collaborative and creative learning. Once the time was up, all groups presented their task outcomes and explained their processes and why; clarifying their choices and justifying them. After some fantastic presentations, Daniel and Libby decided to reward two groups who they thought displayed really innovative ideas and these were prized with copies of ‘Around The World In Cut-Outs’ by Paperboyo.
When evaluating the workshop students were extremely positive and explained that they ‘found the session really insightful, I never knew that there were so many departments within publishing.’ Some students even took this opportunity to speak one-on-one with our visitors to discuss some of their own literary works including their own creative stories and poetry! We hope to see Penguin Random House Publishers again soon and would like to thank them for sharing their time, knowledge and support with RSA Academy Arrow Vale!
