31 Jan Heart of England Forest Work Experience
The Heart of England Forest is a charity committed to helping reverse centuries of woodland decline by planting a 30,000 acre joined up forest of entirely native broadleaf trees. At 12% of their planting goal, they have already planted England’s largest new native forest. A group of students from RSA Arrow Vale joined a Heart of England team at Newnham to plant some Oak trees. We planted 50 in 30 minutes and got somewhat muddy but we realised that working outdoors could be much better than being stuck at a desk all day. It made us think that we’d quite like to work in conservation or in horticulture…maybe as a tree surgeon, landscape gardener, ecologist or conservationists. Fresh air, exercise, a sense of well-being, a salary and the knowledge that we are doing something positive for our planet. A rewarding and ethical way to earn a living.
