13 Dec RSA Takeover Day
Thursday 30th November myself and a small group of year 13 students were given the opportunity to visit the RSA building in London for an RSA Takeover Day. This event happens every year and gives students the chance to create a project and pitch it to members of the RSA, in happens in a similar style to Dragon’s Den. The aim of the project is to win either £250 or £100 from the RSA in order to start up our project. As a team, we were able to create a presentation for our project, Help for the Homeless. The project criteria has to be something that is either sustainable or will leave a legacy within our school community. We think that our project covered both of these areas. Our project involved the creation of packages that contain what we see to be the necessities that every individual should have access to. We also
wanted to make sure that our project had a strong community element so this was our focus surrounding our project. The day at the RSA building was more than just pitching our ideas, we were given a tour of the RSA and we all believe that was one of the best tours we have ever received because our tour guide, Richard, was able to relate to our age group and make the historical context of the RSA more enjoyable for us. We also had two further sessions with members of the RSA to help us with the presentation of our pitch and to learn a bit more about what the RSA actually does; this provided us valuable insight into the environment our school belongs to. The pitching of the project also meant we were able to see other schools present their ideas so we were able to see the fantastic talent of the other groups. When presenting our own project our team was incredibly passionate about it. Despite us not being one of the winning teams, as a group we have all decided that we want to continue with our project and are now working towards involving the rest of our school community to continue this project for our last year at Arrow Vale, but also to create a positive impact in our local community.
