16 Nov Spring into the World of Work
On Wednesday 14th November our Year 10 Engineering group along with a couple of Year 9s who are considering the Engineering qualification next year, visited Micro Springs and Presswork Limited on the Enfield Industrial Estate in Redditch. Keith Gardner, the MD, told us all about the products and customers. They make springs for Formula One, for oil rigs, for satellites and even for ejector seats.
Then we had a guided tour of the factory floor. Some of us got to hand make springs – not as easy as it looks! Then we “speed dated” a range of employees. We rotated round 7 employees from finance to recruitment to logistics and we got to ask them any questions we wanted. We loved that the visit was interactive. It was also really relevant for our Engineering qualification, and for Science as he explained that silver
didn’t produce sparks and so was used in presswork in bomb disposal equipment and gold plated springs go up in space. Our best questioners during the “speed dating” activity won cinema tickets. Keith and his colleagues always make the visit fun.
Thank you.
