11 Jul Work Experience
Alesha, Olivia and I have been working at Hogarth Hotel in Solihull one day a week for five weeks. It was part of our careers provision at RSA Arrow Vale. We were rotated around three key areas within the hotel: Conference & Banqueting, Brasserie, and Housekeeping. When working in Conference & Banqueting we had to shadow a supervisor for events taking place, fill in/follow function sheets and assist in looking after conferencing and events lunches. Sometimes we had to put out tables and chairs for a funeral or a work conference. In the Brasserie, we worked in the restaurant, learned to work with the booking system, learned core standards, learned how to lay up the restaurant, went through all menus and helped set up for lunch service, afternoon tea and dinner service. We also worked in Housekeeping. We learnt housekeeping core standards, we got a tour of the bedrooms, we learnt how to check rooms prior to guests checking in, learnt the lost property process, learnt cleaning core standards, and learnt how to service a guest room. We had to wear a smart uniform consisting of black trousers/skirt, white blouse and purple tie. I think that it was harder than being at school and sometimes our supervisors were really strict. Our teachers help us more in school than thy helped us in the workplace. Olivia would still like to work in a hotel but Alesha and I aren’t so sure. We are still grateful for Hogarth’s for having us.
